Croatia is an ideal country for both recreational and professional diving, easily accessible by car from the Czech
Republic. Distance of localities around the Istrija peninsula from the Czech Republic is mere thousand kilometers and
distance of localities around Dubrovnik from CZR is not more than two thousands kilometers, moreover – nowadays mostly
via motorways. The sea is clean, with a good visibility, depending on the season of the year and on the locality, the
seabed is either sandy or grassy, but mostly rocky. Unfortunately, it is too exhausted by hunting and shoals of bigger
fishes are now only images of the past. In spite of this, it is possible here to come across plenties of small fishes,
such as the Rainbow Wrasse, Tompot Blenny, Red-mouthed Goby, Painted comber, Peacock Wrasse, further seabreams, salemas,
octopuses, cuttlefishes, crabs, less often on crayfishes and electric rays. With a little luck, you can also come
across smal sharks, exceptionally on dolphins or a blue shark. In shipwrecks, there are also big rays. Shipwrecks are
what is most visited in Croatia. The most popular ones include - Mearon Gautsch on Istriija Lina on the Cres island,
Taranto next to Dubrovnik, the destroyer S-57 on the Pelješac island and a long list of other wrecks mostly from the
time of the WWI. and WWII. Other attractive localities are – the natural reserve Kornati, sea lake Te vega on Sušac,
underwater abyss Modra špilja next to Biševo and other localities on more outlying islands. |
