Greek tzaziki, olives and gyros are famous all over the world, as well as Greek hospitality, even though they have been
recently quite expensive. Yet, you are surrounded by ancient history all around and under water too. For this reason,
diving with apparatus is prohibited in Greece in localities, where there are archeological sights under water and also
night diving is prohibited. Diving bases, which have a licence, can have certain exceptions. Further it is prohibited to
take photos, to lift up or otherwise namipulate with the artifacts, and you are not allowed to have devices on the board
for searching for artifacts. Professional and scientific diving requires permit. Possible finding of an artifact has to
be immediately announced to the port police or to the Ministry of Culture. In spite of this, there are many beautiful
diving localities in Greece, mostly on islands surrounded by crystal blue, pellucid water in the prefectures of Corfu,
Chalkidiki, Lefkada, Kyklades, Larissa, Preveza, Fokida, Lassithi, Rethimno and others. Most of these regions with a
series of islands and little islands offer an unusual variety and richness of terrains, from the simplest ones to
perpendicular walls falling into the depth of about 80 meters with cold water but a very good visibility. |
